African Quilt, Morning Glories, Cornflowers

Well, I finally got the top and the backing of my niece's African Quilt sent to thequilter this past week.

I went out early this morning to wrap the stems of the morning glories around the copper wire I have strung across the dog fence. I turned around and found the first blooming glories on the fence. The pictur does not show the deep purple true color but they are gorgeous.

Here is a picture of the yellow and purple coneflowers in the garden.Enjoy the pictures and Keep on Quilting.

Lavender Bees and Coneflowers

My lavender is in bloom and the blooms are being visited by many honey bees. It is fun to watch them stick their whole head in the tiny lavender blooms to get the honey. My first coneflower is blooming. The petals are so perfect (I took the picture before they turned color or something decided to eat it). I have so many in my garden that they have crowded out my roses. I gave 50 to the Master Garden sale and 50 to my towns garden sale ---so see I have ALOT!!!! I have yellow, purple, red and orange. Will show these when they bloom.

My husband's mother favorite flower was the Easter Lily. I took one from the funeral and planted it in my garden. This was in 2002--- each year I get more and more lilies coming up. Their fragrance pours out of the garden. This is just a few that have opened.

Enjoy the pictures from my garden. In regard to quilting--- I did get the backing done for the wedding quilt so it will be going off to the quilter soon. I have made 8 flamingo placemats to take to my retreat for all us old biddies to eat on and got 8 wild colored marquarita glasses to finish off each day of sewing. What FUN!!!!

Keep on quilting.

Roses, Weeds, and Trees

This is one of my roses blooming in my garden which still needs to be cleaned out. My coneflowers have taken over and are surrounding all of my rosebushes. Yesterday after we took my mother out for dinner, I thought I would come home and start again on pulling weeds but of course it was raining. Today the sun is shining so I am going to start again. Plus I have this old but pretty weed:

And I have a few trees like this maple and oak.
My herbs are looking OK-- this is my thyme which has gone to seed.
So everyone ENJOY the day. Keep on Quilting!!

Clematis's in Color

Well, another day of clouds. No rain right now but heard it is on the way. I went out and fed the deer and birds. The clematis around the dog pen were all blooming in their different colors so I want to share their beauty.

Here is picture of what is up on the design wall. I have not decided yet if I am going to off set each row vertical until I get more rows done. I will try to keep you up to date on how it is working out.

Have a Great Sunday and Keep on Quilting!!

Home from Paducah--Finding Flowers

Well, I am back from Paducah and glad that week is over. Saw lots of beautiful quilts, good vendors (spent too much money) and saw alot of GREAT FRIENDS (that is you Barb)!! I was surprised that the number of people attending was down. I have been going for the past 20+ years and have never been able to walk into a restaurant at noon and sat down to eat and see other tables open.

All my clematis's are blooming and this is early for them. They are so beautiful.

My ferns are coming in nicely. I would like to use their leaves when I dye fabric and let it dry in the sun.And then we have nice weeds also.

Well, I'm cleaning my studio and rearranging furniture and trying to put away fabric. Hope to get this done to start up sewing and quilting on May1.. That is my goal to sit at the sewing machine and get things DONE!!! Procrastination---GOODBYE!!

Keep on Quilting!!!

Dyed fabric and Log Cabin

It was so nice this past week I decided to dye some more fabric. This group I started with Bright Red, Golden Yellow and Bright Blue . The last group in March, I used Fuschia, Sun Yellow and Bright Blue.

I have been quilting for several years and I have never made a Log Cabin quilt. So I found this fabric some by Michael Miller and thought --- this is my Log Cabin.

I am leaving this Tuesday for Paducah. The BIG QUILT SHOW I hope some of you are heading there also. I will be taking my computer with me so let me know if you are there. If so Have a GREAT TIME.

Keep on Quilting!!!

Beautiful Colors

Hi everyone,

I was busy yesterday doing some dyeing because I cannot wait till it warms up here in Southern Indiana. My sink is a mess but I have to clean it so who cares. I did polka dot the grout with some blue because it became uncovered and I did not know it at the time. Adds to the color in my kitchen.
These say Hello Spring!!!!!
These are just as pretty but on the cool side.

Having so much FUN. Now to start to get ideas on what to make with the fabrics. Any Ideas????

Keep on quilting!!!!!

African quilt for Niece

Here is the quilt top almost put together for my niece who travels to Africa once or twice a year to work in the bush with vets on the big cats. She has been bugging me for a long time that she wanted one of my quilts to snuggle in but none of the ones I have were right for her. Till I found these fabrics in Hilton Head at a cute quilt shop I visit everytime I go there.
I'm planning to put a small black border, then a small border of all the prints and then a 4 or 6 inch black border. Any other suggestions???

This woodpecker sat in this position on the birdfeeder for 2 hours without moving. He must have been waiting for a bug.

What we do for food!!!!! Love it. Have a Great Day!!!

Winter Weather Quilt

Just got back last Sunday from a retreat I sponsor for myself and 5 GOOD friends. We were staying at my brother-in-laws hunting cabin in the Amish country in Kentucky. This nice cabin is 3500 sq. ft. and can sleep 16 bodies.

We were there a whole week and we are still friends. We have lots of good food and when we don't feel ilke cooking we go to town to the Cafe or to the Catfish place and enjoy catfish and all the trimmings.

Usually we take our machines and end up sewing very little but for some reason this time we all sewed like crazy. I finished this quilt top made from Moda's Fresh Squeezed Line and it made me feel good the whole time I worked on it. It just makes you want to SMILE. The pattern is Just Can't Cut It. I have made several of these because they are easy and fast.

I made a huge pot of 15 bean soup and cornbread today. It is so filling and delicious and warms your insides.

That is all for now. Bren

ICE- SNOW- OH NO

Boy. this weather is something else. We got out of the house for the first time since Monday. We had to weave around on our driveway because the maple tree top is sitting on most of it. Here are some pictures of what our yard looks like:

We were out of electricity for only 10 hours but my sister is still out since Tuesday. Thank you to all the power supply people who came from other states to help us and others to power back on.

Here is a picture of my neice wedding quilt. She is a lover of blue and her husband is from India so this is my quilt to them.

I will get it quilted as soon as I can get the backing made. Hope to have it done for their 1st anniversary in June.

Will show more ice pics tomorrow.
